The Morobe Show is the premier venue in Papua New Guinea for some of the best Traditional Dancing able to be seen. The Traditional Dancing Groups (or "Sing Sing Grups" in pigin english) perform at the Show on the Sunday after the official opening of the Show and the display lasts for some hours.

The range of groups on display is the largest variery and cross section of groups that can be seen performing anywhere in PNG and usually all provinces are represented. Between 2,000 and 3,000 performers usually attend and each year there are always one or two sing sings that have never been seen before or very seldom seen and are quite uncommon.

Tourists and Tour Groups are catered for and special arrangements can be made to accomodate them if necessary. This includes being collected and droped back to hotels by bus, seating in special areas better suited to taking photographs, meals and refreshments and by arrangement exclusive access to the performing arena. Registration

Dancing Groups wishing to Apply to participate in the Sing Sings should print out the Application Form below, become familiar with the Terms and Conditions of participation, and forward the completed Application Form and Registration Fee to the Secretary. Once your Registration Fee has been received and the Application Form has been processed you will be supplied with your Registration Certificate.

There is a restriction on the number of groups able to register from each Province and registrations are on a "first come - first in" basis.

Part B

Information required from the Provincial Culture Office for Groups participating in 2007 Morobe Show coming from outside Lae. All information is required to be on the Provincial Government or Culture Office letterhead and signed by the Provincial Cultural Officer.

SCHEDULE OF APPRECIATION MONEY

All groups will be paid appreciation money based on the number of participants in each group and where the individuals in the group come from. All participants must be in traditional dress. The following schedule details the rates to be applied. The rates apply only to the number of performers in each group and will not include other family and assistants. The number of performers per group will be checked on Sunday in the main arena of the showground during the singsing.

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE

2007 MOROBE SHOW TRADITIONAL SINGSING

Entry Fee: K80.00 per sing sing group

Prior to the show, groups are requested to provide written descriptions of the performance to the Show Office. There must be a MINIMUM of 20 Dancers to a MAXIMUM of 30 dancers in each group. Appearance money will be reduced if the number in any group is below the minimum number.

All singsing groups are to provide their own transport to and from the show grounds and accommodation and transport with friends or relatives at their own expense. NO TRANSPORT or ACCOMMODATION will be provided or paid for by the Morobe Traditional Dancing Society or the Morobe Province Agricultural Society. Groups will be provided with some basic food rations for the week-end to be collected from the singsing office (green building located inside the showgrounds on the Jawani Street boundary) after 3pm Friday afternoon. No firewood or cooking equipment will be supplied. All groups are to provide their own or obtain it from friends locally.

All groups to arrive in Lae on Friday October 26th 2007 or Saturday October 27th 2007 and depart on Monday 29th October 2007. All groups will receive a cash cheque as per attached schedule (page 2) to show appreciation for their performance at the show. Transport will not be arranged or provided for groups from Lae or outside Lae.

Groups will only be requested to perform on Sunday at the Showground. They must assemble by 7.30am on SUNDAY 5th November at the marshalling area (Jawani Street)

Participants must not be under the influence of Liquor at any time. Any groups that are or are unruly will be denied access to the Showgrounds.

The Singsing committee reserves the right to stop payment on cheques for non-performance by a group or where damages are caused to facilities in the showgrounds by members of any singsing group.

All performances will be subject to strict TRADITIONAL ONLY dress restrictions and appearance payments will be reduced for non-traditional dress. All participants are directed to dress in FULL TRADITIONAL BILAS.

Each group will be allowed to have one (1) name bearer and three (3) bilas carriers enter the showground with the group. All other must buy tickets and enter the showgrounds through the ticket gates

Any groups who fail to show up will forfeit their registration fee.
