The Morobe Show is the premier venue in Papua New Guinea for some of the best Traditional Dancing able to be seen. The Traditional Dancing Groups (or "Sing Sing Grups" in pigin english) perform at the Show on the Sunday after the official opening of the Show and the display lasts for some hours.

The range of groups on display is the largest variery and cross section of groups that can be seen performing anywhere in PNG and usually all provinces are represented. Between 2,000 and 3,000 performers usually attend and each year there are always one or two sing sings that have never been seen before or very seldom seen and are quite uncommon.

Tourists and Tour Groups are catered for and special arrangements can be made to accomodate them if necessary. This includes being collected and droped back to hotels by bus, seating in special areas better suited to taking photographs, meals and refreshments and by arrangement exclusive access to the performing arena. 2008 MOROBE SHOW

GENERAL

Dancing Groups wishing to take part in the 2008 Sing Sing should read this document, become familiar with the Terms and Conditions of participation, and forward the completed Application Form, and Registration Fee of 80 Kina per group to the Show Secretary together with a Letter of Recommendation from the relevant Provincial Cultural Officer. Once your Registration Fee has been received and the Application Form has been processed you will be supplied with your Registration Certificate.

There is a restriction on the number of groups able to register from each Province and registrations are on a "first come - first in" basis. Registration for all Dancing Groups will CLOSE on Friday, 26th September, 2008 or earlier if the required number of groups is reached beforehand. NO further applications will be considered after this time.

Dancing Groups are advised that the falsification of applications will be taken very seriously this year. Groups who provide false information in their application will not be allowed to participate in the show. Groups are reminded that numbers of participants must be NO LESS than 20 dancers and NO MORE than 30 dancers. Groups who attend the show in numbers of less than 20 dancers will be paid only HALF FEE this year.

The following information is required from the Provincial Culture Office for groups participating in 2008 Morobe show. All information is required to be on the Provincial Government or Culture Office letterhead, and signed by the Provincial Cultural Officer, and must be submitted with the Application form to enable the group to register.

SCHEDULE OF APPRECIATION MONEY

Appreciation money is based on the number of participants in each group and where the individuals in the group come from. All participants must be in traditional dress. The rates apply only to the number of actual performers in each group which will be checked on Sunday in the main arena during the singsing.

Appreciation money must be collected from the Show Secretary's Office Sunday 19th October between 3pm and 5 pm. The group registration certificate and photo

GROUP B - For groups from beyond Daulo Pass. Chimbu, Mt. Hagen, Rabaul, Papua, Manus, Vanimo, Wewak, Kavieng & Alotau K45 per performer

GROUP C - For groups from beyond Kassam Pass including Goroka, Asaro, Kainantu & beyond Ramu Valley including Madang, Kar kar and Saidor as well as Garaina, Aseki, Kimbe and Popondetta K40 per performer

GROUP D - For groups from beyond Wau, Manu Valley, Siassi, Kabwum, Morobe & Finschafen K35 per performer

GROUPS E & F - For groups from beyond Mumeng including Bulolo & Way, Wantoat and Boana, the Upper Markham Valley beyond Mutzin), Salamaua, Kaiapit, Busama & Mumeng K30 per performer

GROUP G - For groups from the Lower Markham up to Mutzin, Labu, Erap, Munum, Gabensis & Situm K25 per performer

GROUP H - For groups from Lae City and for all performers in all groups who live in Lae regardless of Home Province K20 per performer

PART C

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE
2008 MOROBE SHOW TRADITIONAL SINGSING

NO TRANSPORT or ACCOMMODATION will be provided or paid for by the Morobe Province Agricultural Society. Groups are to provide their own transport to and from the showgrounds, and accommodation with relatives or friends is at the groups' own expense.

Groups should arrive in Lae on Friday 17th October 2008 and Group Leaders will be provided with some basic food rations for the weekend to be collected from the Singsing Ration Shed (green building located inside the showgrounds on the Jawani Street boundary) on the afternoon of Friday 17th October, 2008 from 12 noon. No firewood or cooking equipment will be supplied. Group leaders should bring their group's Registration Certificate and will be issued with their Photo ID.

Groups will only be requested to perform on Sunday at the Showground. They must assemble by 7.30 a.m. on SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER at the marshalling area at the bottom of Bumbu Road.

Participants must not be under the influence of Liquor at any time. Any groups that are, or are unruly will be denied access to the Showgrounds and any group causing any damage will forfeit their Appreciation Money.

All participants are required to dress in FULL TRADITIONAL BILAS ONLY. Each group will be allowed to have one (1) name bearer who must also be dressed in full traditional bilas and will carry a banner provided by the Morobe Show Agricultural Society (other banners will not be allowed into the arena). Additionally up to three (3) kago carriers may also enter the showground with the group but will not be allowed into the arena itself. All others must buy tickets and enter the showgrouns through the ticket gates.

Any groups who fail to show up will forfeit their registration fee.
